Frequently asked questions.
What makes your products special?
All of our products have been created with the passion you get from a mom & pop shop so-to-speak but balanced with the tenacity and diligence of a professional and the tender care of a mother. By using the ingredients and materials we feel are right (rather than always finding the cheapest), we are able to ensure top-notch quality and deliver a consistent product.
We are unwavering about doing things the right way. So while our recipes and formulas have all been created in-home, we have also invested in testing each product for safety and ensuring quality control measures are met.
Why are Darn Good Sweets & Treats only available locally?
We currently operate as a cottage bakery in the state of Ohio, which prohibits us from selling our baked goods across state lines. In order to safeguard against potential orders that we would have to cancel (which leaves everyone sad!), we have opted to only offer our bakery items for local pick-up.
What is a cottage bakery?
Simply put, a cottage bakery is an unlicensed kitchen operating out of a home. As such, cottage bakers are limited to selling non-hazardous goods (mainly considered goods that do not require refrigeration). Cottage food laws vary from state to state, so be sure to inquire with your respective state and local offices for specific guidance.
In Ohio, cottage bakers have a specific list of foods which are permitted to be produced without a license. Although there are no licensing requirements to sell as a cottage baker, it is still necessary to ensure proper labeling standards are followed. Further, without obtaining a Home Bakery License, cottage bakers are limited to selling within the State’s borders and at specific locations. Why do I need to submit an order request?
While I would love to be able to bake, make and create to my heart’s content, the days frequently seem to run together… I know, the struggle felt by many.
As result however, I unfortunately do limit the amount of orders and offerings I allow myself to complete. This enables me to ensure I can devote the same heartfelt passion to each item while balancing (or somewhat attempting to LOL) a full-time career, being a wife, and mother without my little hobby turned side hustle becoming emotionally burdensome.
